The idea behind the bell jar,what it represents, the meaning of the analogy..
A glass dome that hovers over certain people.
The jar is lowered, the poor soul suffocates..
And is unable to see clearly.
The metaphor for crippling depression or real life psychosis..
When the crazy isn’t a game..
When you’re really in it..
“the bell jar descends”
As in, every suicide had a glass dome lowered on them, right before the end..
It’s a neat metaphor..
And she believed it strongly, enough to name her book after it…
I guess I’ve never thought about it ..
Not a glass dome.
I always considered poison bloodlines or narcotic casualties or plain old losers..
I never thought of a jar.
